Here's a fun fact: According to our most recent bridal hair and makeup study (The Knot Bridal Beauty Study) 83% of brides said that once they were engaged, they were more interested in looking and feeling their best than they had ever been before.
Put another way, hair and makeup isn't just for the wedding day -- it's top of mind as soon as she gets engaged. Here, the latest bridal beauty and hair insights plus tips for the taking -- just in time for engagement season!
1. Availability is of utmost importance.
The number one factor brides considered when researching makeup and hair pros? Your availability. In fact, 98% of brides listed makeup artist's and hair stylist's availability as the most important when researching who to book. Sounds like an obvious one but knowing that this is the most important factor, it's up to you to make sure they understand your availability up front.
What To Do About It: Find ways to communicate your availability up front. One way to do that is through our Proposal Request Form on TheKnot.com. It's super simple -- couples answer a series of questions about their wedding day beauty needs (from the number of people needing services to date and times) and then that information is sent over to you at the same time they reach out to you. What's great is that you don't have to spend your time pulling that information out of your prospective clients and they get to find out about your availability sooner than later. Easy peasy.

2. They're finding beauty inspiration on Pinterest.
No surprise here. Pinterest is the number one source of inspiration for brides' wedding day beauty looks, with 86% of brides listing it as a source.
What To Do About It: Pin the images from your website, blog and from your storefront on The Knot to your Pinterest. Make sure that when you pin the images, you're also including descriptive captions for each -- giving you a better chance of coming up in the Pinterest search bar. Also, ask your couples up front for a link to a Pinterest board of hair and makeup ideas to help push the conversation along.

3. Long lashes and braids are among the most popular.
Big lashes and long braids are two of the most pinned and re-pinned makeup and hairstyles. Below are a few of the top re-pinned makeup and hair images from The Knot beauty Pinterest board:

What To Do About It: Be prepared for these requests - and lots of them. You'll want to be the go-to pro in your area for these most-loved looks.
4. They want you before the wedding day.
When asked to report when they got their makeup and hair professionally done, 58% (makeup) and 59% (hair) used their pros the week leading up to their wedding. (Think rehearsal dinner and welcome party!)
What To Do About It: Offer your clients hair and makeup for the other events. Once you have a great style for their wedding day, you can play off of that style by suggesting something slightly different -- like a bold lip or a fun braid for the rehearsal dinner night.

5. They really trust your makeup product expertise. (Like Really Really)
According to our study, 75% of brides let their makeup artist have complete say in the makeup products used. That means they not only are not dictating products but that they have total trust in you as the makeup expert.
What To Do About It: Take advantage of the fact the so many brides trust you to make the right choice on makeup and build your credibility online as much as possible. Make sure you're encouraging your couples to leave you (rave) reviews so that you one day win The Knot Best of Weddings (a special honor for those wedding pros who have 10+ recent rave reviews from the previous year). Awards like those give your clients confidence in your skills and give you expert status.
