5 Hair and Makeup Requests You'll Get This Summer

The Knot Weddings Magazine Summer just hit newsstands on Monday and this issue featured our 2017 beauty trend report. In short? Summer brides are all about bright lips, gorgeous skin and natural hair with a twist. Below, we rounded up 5 of our favorite bridal beauty trends. Hair and makeup artists, prep yourselves!

1. "I'd like to try a bold lip."

The big bold lip color trend that started on the bridal fashion runways a couple years ago is going totally mainstream at weddings this summer. Whether it's a red-red or more of a fuchsia tone,  don't be surprised to hear your clients ask for a not-so-subtle lip color.

Makeup Marketing Tip: On Instagram, make sure that at least 1 of every 10 or so images features a bride with a bolder lip hue. It'll signal to your future potential clients (who are, by the way, stalking you on social before they decide to reach out) that you are up on the trends and can help them pull off the look -- if that's what they're going for!

2. "I want to add a fun hair piece."

Depending on where you do most of your weddings, a veil may still be the finishing touch for most of your clients. That said, jeweled hair pieces -- made up of fun textures and colors (hi rose gold) -- are trending big for summer.

Hairstyle Marketing Tip: Get to know bridal boutiques in your area that specialize in or carry interesting and fun hair pieces beyond the typical. That way you can either recommend them to your future clients or even borrow one for a styled shoot to use on your marketing materials for summer!

3. "Can you highlight and contour?"

The celeb-approved, (ahem, Kardashian-endorsed and reinforced) technique of sculpting the face and playing up features is not going anywhere fast. Whether your brides specifically ask for it or not, chances are that they'll respond well to the technique.

Makeup Marketing Tip: Try including more of a how-to in your captions on social media and explain the techniques that you like to use on your brides. Tailor each caption to your brides' styles and skin tones. That will signal to future brides that you believe in total personalization and customization (two factors that win big with millennials).

4. "I want a dewy look."

Popular for just about any season but often requested in summer,  don't be surprised to hear this more than a few times.

Makeup Marketing Tip: Go through your photos of past clients and pull out the ones of your brides with this style -- then re-post them to your Instagram and Facebook feed using captions filled with buzzwords that brides will respond to like, "glowy" "fresh-faced" and "dewy palette".

5. "I want to wear fresh flowers in my hair or maybe a flower crown."

Those 70's-flower-child-inspired accessories aren't going away anytime soon! With a huge range of options, (think: a twist of greenery to a crown of peonies), brides will continue to ask for the fresh flower style in their hair and the boho bride hairstyle is just going to get even more mainstream.

Hairstyle Marketing Tip: If you haven't worked with any brides that have wanted a flower crown yet for their wedding day, re-create the look on a model and have a photographer shoot it for you. Use those photos on your storefront, website and social channels -- and don't forget to use all the appropriate hashtags like #flowercrown and #bohoweddinghairstyle.
